What Is My Router's IP Address?
People usually mean one of two things by router IP: the public address your whole home shares (displayed at the top of our homepage), or the private gateway address you type into a browser to open the router's admin page.
Here is how to find the admin address on each platform.
The common defaults
Most routers use 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 for their admin page. Type one into your browser's address bar. If a login page appears, that is it.
If neither works, find your exact gateway with the steps below.
Windows
Open Command Prompt and run ipconfig. The Default Gateway line is your router's private IP.
Mac
Open System Settings, Wi-Fi, Details on your network, TCP/IP tab. The Router field shows the address.
iPhone and Android
On iPhone: Settings, Wi-Fi, tap the (i) next to your network, the Router field. On Android: Settings, Network and Internet, Wi-Fi, tap your network, look for Gateway.
Frequently asked questions
What is the default router username and password?
Often admin/admin or admin/password, printed on a sticker on the router itself. Change it the first time you log in.
Is my router IP the same as my public IP?
No. The router's admin address (like 192.168.1.1) is private and only works inside your home. Your public IP is what the internet sees, shown on our homepage.
