How to Find Your IP Address on a Smart TV

Your smart TV has a private IP address on your home network, and it shares your home's public IP with the internet. Streaming apps use the public IP to decide which shows you can watch, so both are worth knowing.

The fastest way to see your public IP: open the TV's web browser and load our homepage, it shows it instantly. For the private IP in your network settings, follow the steps for your TV brand below.

Samsung (Tizen)

Press the Home button, then go to Settings, General, Network, Network Status. Select IP Settings. Your TV's IP address is listed there, along with the subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server.

If the IP shows as 0.0.0.0, the TV failed to get an address from your router. Back out and choose Retry, or restart the TV and router.

LG (webOS)

Press the Settings (gear) button, then All Settings, Network, Wi-Fi Connection. Select Advanced Wi-Fi Settings. Your IP address is shown on that screen.

On a wired connection the path is similar: All Settings, Network, Wired Connection, then the advanced details for that connection.

Roku TV

Press Home on the remote, then go to Settings, Network, About. Your IP address is listed under the network information, along with signal strength and connection type.

This same path works on standalone Roku players too. Roku does not bury the address in a submenu, About shows everything on one screen.

Fire TV

Go to Settings, Network, then highlight your connected Wi-Fi network and press the Play/Pause button on the remote. A details panel appears with your IP address, gateway, and DNS.

Fire TV menus look nearly identical on Fire TV Sticks, so these steps work for the stick as well.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I need my smart TV's IP address?

Phone remote-control apps, casting tools, and home automation setups often ask for the TV's IP to connect. It is also useful when troubleshooting a TV that will not go online.

Is my TV's IP the same as my phone's IP?

No. Each device on your home network gets its own private IP (for example, your TV might be 192.168.1.10 while your phone is 192.168.1.5). They do share the same public IP, which you can see on our homepage.

Can I see my public IP in the TV settings?

No, TV settings only show the private network IP. To see your public IP, open the TV's web browser and visit our homepage.

My TV shows an IP of 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.x.x. What does that mean?

The TV failed to get an address from your router. Restart the TV, then restart the router, then reconnect to Wi-Fi. If it persists, try a wired connection to rule out Wi-Fi problems.

Can I set a static IP on my smart TV?

Yes. On Samsung use the IP Settings screen and switch from automatic to manual. On LG the option is in the advanced network settings. A static IP keeps remote apps working because the address never changes.
